L. aPregnancy diagnosis by cytological evaluations of the vaginal smear in the ewe. c1983 aVaginal smears were made from 148 ewes 23-146 days after mating. In 107 of the ewes, examinations were also made with a Doppler ultrasonic instrument. A diagnosis of pregnancy from smears was made on 2 criteria: (1) a predominance of large, nucleated, spherical cells; (2) aggregates of these cells. Based on the 1st criterion, the accuracy of positive and negative diagnoses of pregnancy was 45.9 and 82.8% resp. vs. 88.6 and 48.3% for the 2nd criterion. aAnimal reproduction aEwes aPregnancy diagnosis aSheep1 aFUKUI, Y.1 aONO, H. tIn: WORLD CONFERENCE ON ANIMAL PRODUCTION, 5., 1983, Tokyo.
