M. aCross-breeding for the production of fine woolbeffect on wool production. c1980 aAbstract : Data on 6-monthly weight of greasy and clean fleeces were collected in 1973 and 1974 on 299 yearling ewes representing Malpuras, Choklas and Rambouillets, and Rambouillet crossbreds. For the 3 breeds resp., greasy fleece weight averaged 0.53, 1.15 and 2.07 kg. Greasy fleece weight/kg postshearing body weight averaged 0.03, 0.07 and 0.06 kg. For Rambouillet X Malpura F1s, F2s, and 5/8 and 3/4 crossbreds, greasy fleece weight averaged 1.20, 1.11, 1.25 and 1.15 kg resp., and greasy fleece weight/kg body weight 0.05, 0.05, 0.06 and 0.06 kg. Corresponding figures for Rambouillet X Choklas were 1.42, 1.29, 1.27 and 1.22 kg, and 0.07, 0.07, 0.06 and 0.06 kg. There were significant differences among genetic groups in greasy fleece weight and in fleece weight/kg body weight. The improvement in fleece weight of the 4 Malpura crossbred groups compared with purebreds was 128.77, 113.39, 139.81 and 119.11% resp. vs. 23.66, 12.57, 10.76 and 5.97% for the Chokla crossbreds. Heterosis ranged from 6.72 to 27.00% for greasy fleece weight, and from 4.03 to 18.18% for greasy fleece weight/kg body weight. It was concluded that there was little to gain in wool production by increasing Rambouillet inheritance beyond 50%. aAnimal production aCrossbreds aSheep aWool production aCruzamento aLã aOvino aProdução animal1 aACHARYA, R.
