J. aEvaluation of a new technology when applied to sheep production systemsbPart I - Model description. c1989 aAbstract: A simulation model of a breeding ewe flock was modified and extended to facilitate the evaluation of a new technology. The model extensions described in this paper were designed to enable a more detailed and rigorous examination of the role of the technology in both existing and proposed systems of production. Additions to the original model included the implementation of a flexible system for allocating pasture feed resources and a more generalised and comprehensive system for assessing financial performance taking year-to-year variations in costs and prices into account. The results of an assessment of the accuracy of the model predictions of farm financial performance are presented in relation to gross margins for surveyed farms in western Victoria over 10 financial years. Departures of predicted from observed gross margins were small, giving us further confidence in the overall reliability of the model. Feasible applications of the model are discussed. aAnimal models aMathematical models aSheep aSimulation models aModelo de simulação aModelo matemático aOvino aSistema de produção aTransferência de tecnologia aInovação tecnológica aModelo animal aNew technology1 aWYSEL, D.
