M. aMilk production of ewes and its relationship with pre-weaning growth of lambs. c1971 aAbstract: Milk yields of 189 Nali and 53 Lohi ewes about 18 months of age were recorded by the lamb-suckling method 3 times a day and 3 times a week. Lohi ewes exceeded Nali in milk yield, although the difference was not significant when differences in weight at lambing were removed. Peak yield was in the second week of lactation in Nali and in the third week in Lohi ewes. Season of lambing and weight of ewe at lambing significantly affected milk yield. Sex of lamb had no significant effect. Weights of the lamb at birth, 30 days and 60 days were significantly, positively related to weight of ewe at lambing. Birthweight of lamb and weight of ewe at lambing contributed equally to the variation in milk yield. Weight gains of lambs were significantly correlated with milk yield of their dams in both breeds and declined as the lactation proceeded. aAnimal performance aEwe milk aMilk production aSheep aWeaning weight aCordeiro aCrescimento aOvino aPeso ao nascer aGrowth aLeite de ovelha1 aBAWA, S.
