N.  aNutritive value of akra for adult sheep.  c1971  aAbstract : Six local sheep, 2 to 3 years old, of 14 to 18 kg bodyweight were given 150 g groundnut cake with 51.9% crude protein in DM and 500 g wheat straw with 2.20 crude protein for 1 month. The same sheep were then given 250 g ground akra, a mixture of seeds of Vicia sativa and V. hirsuta, 30.8% crude protein and 500 g of wheat straw with 2.69% crude protein for 1 month. Average intakes of DM, digestible crude protein and total digestible nutrients TDN were 327, 60 and 210 g with groundnut and 488, 57 and 301 g with akra. The sheep retained 0.59 and 1.65 g N daily. Calculated TDN and digestible crude protein of akra were 69.0 and 24.6%.-P. M.
