Tilapia farming in Sobradinho Lake (Fig. 1) began in 2003, encouraged by government programs to develop this activity with fishermen and others farmers. The activity has grown in an unplanned manner and is dependent on government support for its growth. Private enterprises have also emerged and grown independently.
