Boletim de pesquisa e desenvolvimento, 102).  aIn order to explain the variation of each component of the Gross Value of Production (GVP) it is necessary to decompose the grouped value. Shift-share is a method used in studies of changes in the regional economy that allows the segmentation of the factors that affect the GVP of certain product. The objective of this study was to analyze the influence of the variables harvested area, yield and price in the rate of percentage variation of the GVP of the cassava (Manihot esculenta) production, in the main producers counties, in Alagoas state, for four periods of six years (1990-1996, 1996-2002, 2002-2008 and 2008-2013) and also for the entire period (1990-2013). Results indicated that the variables price and productivity had positive effects, while harvested area demonstrated negative effect on the GVP. The study also highlighted the evolution of the variables, showing that between 1990 and 2013, the GVP had annual increases of 2,5%, 0,5% and 2,3%, while the harvested area decreased at an annual rate of 0,3%.  aEconomia regional  aMandiocultura  aMétodo shift-share  aPprodutividade  aPreços agrícolas1 aSANTIAGO, A.
