Growth rate of goats in hot climates of tropics and subtropics is generally low with a few exceptions is specialized meat breeds. The seasonal changes in the environmental condition is hot semi-arid climate influence the growth rate in kids. The role of changes in T3, and T4, activity and prolactin level without affecting the level of growth hormone during hot periods of the year has been discussed. The harvesting of full benefit of high fertility and prolificacy of goats is hampered by the adverse climate conditions to some extent. The restricted seasonality in reproductive activity in goats of tropics and subpropics is an effort by different breeds in relation to changes in ambient temperature, onset of rain and availability of herbage. The hotter part of the year in tropical countries seems to be more conductive for sexual activity and semen quality and coincides with the period when exhibition of oestrus cycles is also more. The possible machanisms for restriced seasonality has been discussed. The role coat characteristics, energy economy and cutaneous evaporation in adaptability to hot climates have been analysed.
