Pre-conference proceedings invited papers. New Delhi: International Goat Association, 1992. v. 2, pat. 1, p. 224-230c1992 aAbstract: One of the major aspects involved in dairy goats modelling is to know to to what extent data obstained on cows and ewes are suited to the goat and reciprocally. These aspects can be considered under different ways, during model elaboration (can we, for example, use cow or ewe data as relevant information to establish a goat model?), but also as a general question which concerns the ability of a model to be used indistincly for different kind of animals after calibration of the main zootechnical parameters (Live weigth, milk yield, diet characteristics). Until now the models of ruminant digestion and metabolism were mainly focused on animals reared in intensive contition. As the majoritory of the goat herds are managed under range of half desertic condition one of priority and particularity of goat modelling concerns the multiple facts of its physiological adaptation to this king of environmental and feed availability and nutritive value.
