The 9.6 square foot plot is suggested primarily as a procedure for training to estimate herbage production directly in pounds per acre in the field. It has important added value in experimental work when it is desirable to make annual or seasonal checkes on production. The use of this procedure in making forage inventories will fulfill a need for a method which is rapid, easy to use, and mechanically sound. The technique is recommended to range and pasture technicians who are concerned with the measurement, maintenance, and improvement of our forage resources. |
