Ameloblastella amazonica n. sp. (Monogenea: Dactylogyridae) collected on the gills of Pimelodus blochii Valenciennes (Siluriformes: Pimelodidae) from Rivers Acre and Iaco, State of Acre (Brazil) is described. The new species differs from the congeners mainly by the morphology of the dorsal bar, i.e. slightly U-shaped bearing a posteriorly directed flap, arising from the anterior edge of its middle third. The most morphologically similar congeners, A. paranaensis (França, Isaac, Pavanelli & Takemoto, 2003) and A. satoi Monteiro, Kritsky & Brasil-Sato, 2010, resemble A. amazonica n. sp. regarding the general structure of the copulatory complex; however, besides other features, they also differ from the new species because their hooks are similar in size (vs hooks with three different sizes). In addition to the dorsal bar lacking a flap, A. amazonica n. sp. can be differentiated from all congeners based on the combination of the following features: size of hooks (one or two different sizes), shape of the dorsal bar (other than slightly U-shaped), anchor points largely passing the level of superficial root (vs not or slightly passing it), number of MCO rings (other than 3?4) and structure of the articulation between the MCO base and the accessory piece (other than thick, medium-sized, smooth and tubular). Demidospermus leptosynophallus Kritsky & Gutierrez, 1998 and Scleroductus yuncensi Jara & Cone, 1989 were also found infesting P. blochii, both representing new host and locality records. [Detoxification of castor cake by alkaline chemical processes at semi-industrial scale and its use in feeding small ruminants]. Abstract: The objective of this study was to evaluate the detoxification of castor cake (CC) through two alkaline products at different concentrations and its effects on chemical composition, in situ degradability of DM and protein fractionation. Calcium hydroxide [Ca(OH)2 ] and sodium hydroxide (NaOH) were used in two concentrations (60 and 90 grams) diluted in 4 quantities of water (1,000; 1,500; 2,000 and 2,500 ml of water per kg of CC). The efficacy of the treatments was evaluated based on the presence of the 4.19% polyacrylamide (SDS-PAGE) gel ricin subunits in denaturing condition by densitometric analysis. Ricinus agglutinin was detected by hemagglutination bioassays with rabbit red blood cells. From the different concentrations used, only the use of 90 and 60 grams of Ca(OH)2 and NaOH, respectively, was able to detoxify 100% of TMB, both diluted in 2,000 ml of water. On the other hand, when assessing the minimum contact time of reagents with CBC for maximum detoxification, three contact hours is the time required for reagents to reduce cytotoxic proteins by 100%. When evaluating the DM degradability of both detoxified castor cake (DCC), it was observed that DCC-Ca(OH)2 increased 10.06% of ? fraction, while DCC-NaOH increased 22.53%. In general, the degradation parameters were higher for DCC-NaOH. There was no effect (P> .05) of diets on animal performance, except to the feed conversion, which was smaller for goats fed with DCC. The inclusion of DCC in the diet of feedlot goats is an attractive option, considering that goats fed with DCC have better feed conversion and its use does not cause liver and renal disorders, suggesting that soybean meal can be completely replaced.
