Conteúdo:  An important turning point in the appreciation of parasite variability has been those studies on the ecology and epidemiology of parasites and parasitic diseases that have found marked differences in morphologic aspects of parasites. There are some reports on form-function relationship, with morphology representing a marker of peculia physiologic, biochemical and pathogenic behaviours. This study recorded some biometrical alterations from a horse isolate during sucessive syringe passages in laboratory rodents. The measural data of the primary isolate and passages number 10, 15, 50 and 180 were made in 100, 50, 50 and 50 observations from thin smears respectively. The data were analysed statistically using a T-test. The results were organized in the groups: (a) comparison between primary isolate and passage 10 in rodents. (b) comparison between passages into rodent host. (c) comparison between passages 10 and 180 in the rodent host. In the group (a) was observed a highly significant increase in PN, NA, F, T and PN/NA (P<0.0001). In the group (b) a statistically significant reduction in PN was not observed from passages 10 to 15 and 15 to 50. The reduction in NA, T and PN/NA measurements from passage 10 to 15 was highly significant (P<0.0001). NA, F, L and PN/NA increase was highly significant from passage 15 to 50. A statistically significant reduction in PN was observed from passage 50 to 180. In the group (c) a highly significant reduction in PN and NA was observed from pass... Mostrar Tudo

Conteúdo:  We analyzed the pregnancy rate (PR) and birth rate (BR) of Nellore cows raised extensively in the Cerrado/Pantanal during 4 mating seasons (2009?2012), assessing the relationship with the temperature and humidity index (THI) and the effect of the year and breeding season. We used information from 2,116 cows, which were categorized as either multiparous (n = 1430), primiparous (n = 338), or nulliparous (n = 348). In the months of the breeding season (December?February), temperature and relative humidity data were collected to calculate the temperature and humidity index (THI). An ANOVA was performed with a model that included sources of variation from the fixed effects of category of cow and year on PR and BR; and a linear regression analysis and correlation between THI and PR and BR. We observed a significant effect (p < 0.05) on PR. We classified the average across breeding seasons as a moderate THI. The THI of the breeding seasons showed high and significant (p < 0.05) effects only on the nulliparous BR, and low values in other categories. It is concluded that the seasonal THI was not related to the performance of cows, except BR in nulliparous cows.
