During four years an experiment was conduced in a clay textured allic, Dark Red Latosol at Mococa Experimental Station, State of Sao Paulo, Brazil. Four levels of dolomitic limestone were applied in the first year, three months before planting at the rates of 1, 4, 7 and 10t/ha in a randomized complete block design with sixteen replications. In the first three years the IAC-9 soybean cultivar was planted and in the fourth year test was carried out with sorghum cultivar Contigrao 111. Significant responses to limign were obtained for both crops. For soybeans, a quadratic response was observed with maximum yield at about 60% soil base saturation. On the other hand, sorghum response was linear. Leaf analysis showed large differences between sorghum and soybeans for aluminum and manganese concentrations. Sorghum proved to be more susceptible to aluminum than to manganese toxicity, whereas the opposite was observed for soybeans. Liming increased the concentration of nitrogen in the leaves for both crops. The increase of nitrogen concentration in soybean leves also increased seed protein content. |
