The objective of this study is to evaluate RADARSAT images to identify flooded areas and to discriminate vegetation types in two test areas of the Pantanal (Nhecolandia subregion and Nabileque subregion). Four RADARSAT S2D images, SAR standard mode 2 beam, path image (SGF) type, pixels spaced 12,5 x 12,5 m, Georreferenced Information Processing System (SPRING) and Image Processing System (PCI v. 6.2.2) were used. As field truth the mappings effected for the region were used, increased of field works. The interpretation of the radar images was in visual mode after processed. The color composition offered better results than original images allowing to identify areas with "Cerradao" woodland (Forested Savanna) and Grassland (Woody Grassy Savanna) for the Nhecolandia area and "Mata" (Forested vegetation), "Carandazal" (Copernicia alba), Grassland, Planted pasture and more two types of Marshes for the Nabileque area. The flooded areas were identified in water courses, marshes, dry area, moisture area, flooded area, ponds or salt-lakes without emergent plants, ponds with emergent plants and ponds in process of drought with herbaceous and shrub plants. The difference of pasture use was accented in the image of the flood season. Its not possible to identify flooded areas under dense forested vegetation and under dense shrub plants for the two tested areas. |
