The social entrepreneurship has evolved into a complex framework of political, economic and social changes which occurs globally and locally. This study aimed to demonstrate how the social entrepreneurship can contribute on the development of local communities using an applied practical experience in the insular region of Belém. The generation of income from agricultural production, both for subsistence consumption and to marketing has been used as a tool for social promotion by the community in partnership with Embrapa Amazonia Oriental. The research methodology involved bibliographical research and field, using interviews and testimonials provided by community residents. The research showed that the formation of social entrepreneurs is possible through the creation of associative networks of local sustainable and integrated development as a promising alternative to the generation of employment and income for socially excluded families with a help from big companies. |

Future technologies and systemic innovation are critical for the profound transformation the food system needs. These innovations range from food production, land use and emissions, all the way to improved diets and waste management. Here, we identify these technologies, assess their readiness and propose eight action points that could accelerate the transition towards a more sustainable food system. We argue that the speed of innovation could be significantly increased with the appropriate incentives, regulations and social licence. These, in turn, require constructive stakeholder dialogue and clear transition pathways. |
