Blends of poly(o-methoxyaniline)-POMA and poly(vinylidene fluoride)-PVDF exhibiting extremely low percolation threshold and great mechanical strength were prepared by casting readily in the conductive state at various compositions. The morphology of these blends depend on the dopant nature and doping state, as observed by scanning electron microscopy. For undoped of TFA doped blends the spherulitic morphology, peculiar of pure PVDF, was predominately preserved for contents as high as 25% of POMA in the blend. However, blends doped with TSA presented a transition in morphology from spherulites to fibrils (characteristic of polyanilines), for increasing POMA content. Also, blends with TSA presented better conductivity and thermal stability. The conductivity of such blends remained practically unchanged in the range of 10E-3 to 10E-4 S/cm for long periods (500h), after treatment at temperatures of 70and 90 Celsius degrees. Thermal analysis demonstrated that no mass loss was observed up to temperatures as high as the melting point of PVDF. |
