The Brazilian mango commercial production is highly concentrated on USA cultivar Tommy Atkins. Embrapa Cerrados has been working on mango breeding program through intervarietal hybridization to develop cultivars adapted to the Savanna and Northeast Brazilian region conditions. The objective of this work was to evaluate the genetic variability of Alfa, Roxa, Beta and Lita mango cultivars developed by Embrapa Cerrados breeding program. USA cultivars Tommy Atkins, Haden, Palmer and Keitt were used as control. The genomic DNA of each cultivar was extracted and amplified using 21 decamer primers to obtain RAPD molecular markers. The markers were transformed into a binary matrix data to estimate genetic distances among varieties and to perform cluster analysis. It was obtained 306 molecular markers, from which 66,3% were polymorphic. The genetic distances among USA cultivars ranged from 0,101 to 0,237 and among Brazilian cultivars ranged from 0,114 and 0,238. The lowest genetic distance was detected between cultivars Tommy Atkins and Keitt (0,101). Cluster analysis showed a very close group of the Tommy Atkins, Palmer and Keitt cultivars. These results emphasize the importance of the Brazilian mango cultivars as alternative to enlarge the genetic base of the cultivars commercially grown in Brazil. |
