(1) Measurements were made of water infiltration, water retention and porosity of soils of burned and unburned plots of heathland.
(2) On the burned plot the rate of infiltration was decreased by up to 74% compared to the unburned plot.
(3) Moisture retention in the top soil of the burned plot was increased considerably compared to the unburned plot.
(4) Mercury intrusion porosimetry (MIP) was used to investigate the porosity of the surface layers of soil following burning of the vegetation. an explanation of the results, based on the incorporation of ash particles, accords with the observed effects upon water infilatration and retention. |

Perennial peanuts (Arachis spp.) species have shown great optential for soil cover, increase of tropical pastures productivity as well as used with other crops. The objective of this work was to evaluate shoot biomass nutrient concentration and accumulation in twelve Arachis spp. accessions Along the cuttings the concentrations of P and Mg remained stable, while K and Ca shoot concentrations, in general, have decreased. Dry matter (DM) yield was on an average 14,2 Mg ha-1 and P, K, Ca and Mg shoot biomass accumulation were, respectively, up to 33, 176, 500 and 141 kgha-1. The nutrient storage variability between concentrations. The most outstanding accessions were BRA031496, BRA031861, BRA031828, because of their high dry matter yield and greatnutrient content.
