One recommendation to prevent or delay the development of insecticide has been to yearly alternate products of different insecticide classes. From 1991 to 1997, we evaluated insecticide control efficacy under field conditions as well as insecticide susceptibility in two pyrethroid-resistant horn fly populations under a yearly rotation between synergized pyrethroid (lambda-cyhalothrin + piperonyl butoxide) and organophosphate (pirimiphos-methyl) ear tags. The study was conducted at two locations, St. Joseph and Winnsboro, of the Louisiana State University Agricultural Center Northeast Research Station, LA. Fly counts were conducted weekly at each site to asses control efficancy. Insecticide bioassay, using the impregnated filter paper method, were performed twice a year (before and after control season) to determine susceptibility of flies to insecticides. |
