Mango (Mangifera indicaL.) is considered as the most produced tropical fruit around the world (FAO, 2017). The largest Brazilian producer of mangois the semi-arid region of the Sub-area of the São Francisco river basin, that in 2016,it reached a production volume of 654,493 tons of mango (IBGE, 2016), corresponding to 67% of the national fruit production. Only in the Agroindustrial Pole of Petrolina, Pernambuco, and Juazeiro, Bahia, there is an area of more than 14 thousand hectares for this crop, with an average yield of 21.7 and 38.2 tons per hectare in Petrolina and Juazeiro, respectively. In these two municipalities the production value already reaches more than 248 million reais (IBGE, 2016).In addition, the Brazilian mango is widely exported around the world; the country ranks as the 6th largest mango exporter (Anuário Brasileiro Da Fruticultura, 2017), with export volume reaching more than 179 thousand tons in 2017. About 86% of this export is promoted by the Submedia of the Vale do São Francisco (Brazil, 2018), mainly destined for the United States (18%) and Europe (45%).The main varieties of mangoproduced in thisregion are?Tommy Atkins?, ?Haden?, ?Keitt?, ?Kent?, ?Palmer?, originating in the United States and the most used for export. ?Rosa? and ?Espada?are varietiesof Brazilian origin and more popular in the domestic market. |
