To initiate this dialog, prominent policymakers at the national and international levels presented their views on the significance of agricultural research and its linkages to policy. Semi-structured discussions then moved to a roundtable format, involving 30 policymakers and six research directors from 21 countries, primarily from Asia. The participants synthesized the results of their discussions around ussues discussed during the IRRC; vulnerability of a staple food supply for Asia, meeting the needs of rural poor, and GATT and food security self-sufficiency. |
