Following several previous reports, on November 2013 and April 2014, samples of Glycine max (L.) Merr. showing smutty structures along the hypocotyl, on leaves, and on pods were collected on commercial plantations from the states of Tocantins (North Brazil) and Paraná (South Brazil). As the symptoms shows some similarity with those caused by smut fungi, a close look at the material revealed that in reality that it resulted from the growth of a myxomycete, developed on the organic matter accumulated under no-till cultivation that migrated at the plasmodium state towards the surface of the soybean seedlings. Analyzes on stereomicroscope and light microscope, Medellín - Colombia, 2014 VIII Congreso Latinoamericano de Micología / RESUMENES Carteles (Posters)(Ca) lead to the identification of the causal agent of the ?false smut of soybeans? as being a member of the Physaraceae (Myxomycetes), Badhamia affinis Rostaf. This is a first record of slime mold on top of soybeans, an unique report of a myxomycete in Tocantins State, and finally the first record B. affinis in South Brazil. |
