The data was obtained by direct observation of 69 services realized by 25 Andalusian stallions in the season of 1998. The environmental conditions were controlled in each service, showing: firmness of hind limbs while leaning on them (44% of the horses kicked); grade of erection or depletion of the penis in the first service (87% totally erected); incidence of bite on the mane (44%). It was controlled in relation to the previous sexual experience: services without erection (18%); elevations or missed impulses (10%); mounts throught the side (14%). In 97% of the observations, the ejaculation was produced in the first service. It was observed during the ejaculation a mean of 6.6 shakes of the tail (sd=2.6, se=0.04) and these signs were manifested greatly in the 25% of the cases. The time observed from the beginning of the exploration of the mare until the end of the ejaculation oscillated between 1 and 65 minutes with a mean of 10m (sd=16, se=0.26). In the post-service behavior it was observed that 76% of the stallions showed to be relaxed after coitus. Within them, 73% showed a hanging flaccid penis as opposed to a 12% that maintained it erect and a 15% that had in normal conditions. These data show the greath capacity for mounting of the Andalusian stallion. |

Fresh fruits and vegetables are essential sources of nutrients and bioactive compounds with a benefcial efect on human health. However, these products are highly perishable and have a short post-harvest life with signifcant losses worldwide. New advanced technologies, such as nanotechnology, have been used to help reduce post-harvest losses of fruits and vegetables. Nanotechnology can be applied on (i) designing edible coating materials with improved properties extending produce shelf-life, (ii) on packaging with antimicrobial activity enhanced with physical barrier properties, and (iii) additionally with sensors capable of indicating ripening stage and internal quality of fruits and vegetables. The main objective of this article was to review recent advances in the application of nanotechnology for the development of technologies capable of contributing to reduce post-harvest losses of fresh fruits and vegetables |
