The agronomic use of sewage sludge(SS) in considered the principal alternative for the sustentability since the disposal put in the environment of this residue is a great source of organic matter, plant nutrients, acidity ammendendent and conditionater of the physical soil properties. Shoul be attented that SS has heavy metals (Cd, Zu, Mn, Cu, Cr, Ni e Pb) besides persitents organic components that can enter gradually and be accumulated in the animal trophyc chain because they are absorved by plants wich supply animals food. The objective of this work was evaluate in the field conditions the effects of heavy metals included in SS added to a red yellow podzolic soil (0,20 and 40 ton ha-1) wich or without supplying of N,P2O5 and K2O (60,80 and 100 kg ha-1) and its absorption by sugar cane culture. The SS was analysed in "Regia Water" extract presented the followed data C=71*; N=22#,; P=10*; Al=2.0*; Ca=11.5*; Mg=3'.5*, K=2.O*, S=10*, Fe=50*; t*g.kg-1 of dry watter; Cu**=905; Mo=505*, Cd**=25; Cr=645**; Ni**=485; Pb**=265 and Zu**=1880 (**mg.kg-1 of dry water); pH=10 and H2O=620g.kg-1), except for C and N. The disponibility of heavy metal in the soil after SS aplication was done by collecting superficial soil sample (0-20cm depth) at three times; 146,272 and 484 days after planting (dap). In this last collecting samples were also collected at 20-50cm depth. The samples were analysed in the IAC laboratory being determined S in Ca Cl2 extract by turbidimetry (g.kg-1); heavy metals in DTPA (pH=7,3, ratio 2:1) by plasma atomic emission (ICP). The sugar-cane leaves were collected after 146 and 272 days after planting (dap). The aerial parts were analysed in the 272(dap) after the collecting and drying in the ovent at 70oC. The average composition of the SS used showed a Ni content which was near the maximum limit allowed by the EPA Agency (420 mg.Kg-1). However, the SS showed be a good corrective agent for the soil fertility and present a linear increase content of Zn(9.0), Cd(0.2), Cr(0.2), Pb(2.5) and Ni(2.5), expressed in mg.Kg-1 of fine earth. Thus is expected that these heavy metals will be concentraded in the root system (Table 1). The consequences for the soil-plant system caused by heavy metals inclueded i SS were investigated in order to verify the moviment of them for soil to the plants by analysing leaves and aereal parts. The maximum contents founded in leaves concerning the higher do not cause fitotoxicity even for the more sensibible especies. Finaly, showed be enphasized the use of SS not change the heavy metals content in stalks and thus there is on danget the environment of them in the trophic chain (Figue 1).
