For Beetal, Alpine and Alpine X Beetal goats kept at the National Dairy Research Institute farm at Karnal between 1971 and 1975, the percentage of abortions + stillbirths averaged 5.88, 20.00 and 11.63 resp., the kidding rate 170, 149 and 160%, kid birth weight 2.82, 3.03 and 2.95 kg, age at 1st kidding 75.13, 77.50 and 65.88 wk, length of service period 159.09, 230.42 and 218.31 days, length of kidding interval 308.87, 382.36 and 357.23 days, length of dry period 125.46, 152.33 and 112.73 days, lactation length 189.19, 217.19 and 238.96 days, and lactation milk yield 183.54, 314.86 and 313.45 kg. The most important heterotic effects resulting from the crossbreeding were found for age at 1st kidding, length of dry period and lactation length. |
