The Murciano-Granadina is the major goat breed in Spain. A multivariate analysis with the Animal Model was conducted, to estimate genetic and phenotypic parameters by restricted maximum likelihood for dairy traits in this breed. Records on milk, fat and protein yields in 43510 lactations standardised to 240 days of length, belonging to 16746 does, were used in the analyses. Heritability estimates for milk, fat and protein yields at 240 days of lactation were 0.14, 0.18 and 0.17, while repeatability estimates for the same traits were 0.30, 0.26 and 0.29. The yield traits had very strong genetic and phenotypic correlations (ranging between 0.92 and 0.97). |
