Nutritional soil deficiencies for dry matter (D.M.) production of molasses grass Melinis minutiflora Pal. de Beauv., were determined under field conditions in three locations of southeastern region of Brazil (Vassouras and Pirai, in the State of Rio de Janeiro, and Pindamonhangaba, in the State of Sao Paulo), always in hilly ares. Subtraction type treatments, applied after one cut made to uniformize the vegetation, wre: complete, complete minus N, minus P, minus limestone, minus micro nutrients, and control. The treatment without P showed reductions of 25,40, and 37% in the same soils. The absence of micro nutrients caused a significant decrease (P<0.05) of 24 and 28% in grass production at Vassouras and Pindamonhangaba and had no influence (P<0.05) at Pi- rai. The treatment without N showed reductions of 64%, 51%, and 53%, in grass production at Vassouras, Pirai, and Pidamonhangaba, respectively. |
