Abstract : Outbreaks of diarrhoea and loss of weight in calves on 14 farms were investigated during winter/and spring of 1966. All involved calves were subsequently observed. In 9 of these outbreaks Ostertagia ostertagi was the only parasite present in significant numbers and the history and clinical signs coarformed to previously published descriptions of Type II ostertagiasis. The remaining 5 outbreaks, although similar, differed in several important aspects which were due to concurrent infection with large numbers of Fasciola hepática. The differential diagnosis, treatment and prophylaxis of this "fascioliasis/ ostertagiasis complex" is discussed in detail. |
