Huanglongbing (HLB) is known as the most devastating disease of citrus. Two species of Candidatus Liberibacter have been reported in Brazil, Ca. L. asiaticus (CaLas) and Ca. L. americanus (CaLam). Since CaLas is prevalent worldwide, most of the studies have focused that species and very little information is available on CaLam. With the objective to investigate differences in metabolic pathways of Citrus sinensis in response to CaLam, we used a genome- wide microarray approach to identify differentially expressed genes in symptomatic plants when compared to control plants. Hybridizations were performed by Roche Nimblegen with a customized 385K chip containing 32,000 unigenes of C. sinensis. The raw data were pre-processed using the Robust Multiarray Average (RMA). Normalized data were imported to R/Bioconductor where statistical analyses were performed. A Bayesian moderated t-test was calculated and p-values were adjusted for multiple comparisons by the false discovery rate correction. A total of 634 genes with P-values ?0.05, fold change |FC| ? 2.0 and odds probability ? 0.95 were considered differentially expressed. From those, 419 were up- and 215 down-regulated in symptomatic plants. In order to identify enriched gene ontologies regulated in infected plants we applied a gene set enrichment analysis approach and found 45 different biological processes including those involved in response to jasmonic acid stimulus, signaling and metabolism, 17 molecular functions, including oxygen binding, monooxygenase activity and oxidoreductase activity, 6 cellular components, mostly related to chloroplast, enriched at a statistically significant level of 0.001. ABSTRACT: The objective of this study was to compare provenances of Eucalyptus cloeziana for litter fall and the return of nutrients by litter fall in the planting at Planaltina-DF. The planting took place in an area at 1000 m of altitude. The soil was a clay, distrofic Red Latossol. The provenances evaluated were 11008 from Cooktown, 11949 from Fraser Island, Queesland, Australia. In the center of the plots, formed by 7x7 plants, 1mx1m collectors were placed, at ground level. From September 1995 to August 2000, on a monthly basis, the litter fall found in the collectors was removed and separated into leaves, branches, fruits and bark for the evaluation of the dry matter. Before separation, a sample of the material was removed to determine the nutrient and organic carbon contents. The evaluated provenances were similar in the monthly leaves fall, but presented variation in quantity. There was an increase in branches fall from June (end of dry season) to October (start of rainy season) in the region. The leaves form most of the litter followed by branches, fruits and barks. The nutrient's content, rate of decomposition and the time od decomposition of the litter does not depend on the provenance.
