This work represents the contribution of the DNOCS - National Department of Works against Droughts - to the XIV ICOLD - International Congress of Large Dams, which is being held for the first time in our country in the city of Rio de Janeiro. The DNOCS, a federal authority subordinated to the Ministry of the Interior, has been designing and constructing dams along the years with the prime objective of storage of water in the Brazilian Northeast (a region in which this resource is very scerce), one of its basic areas
of actuation. It is thus the holder of a vast experience in the water storage field, being one of the public authorities which most contributed to the formation of the immense quantity of hydraulic works which exist in Brazil. This work is translated through a documentary concerning the main dams constructed by the authority, the effort of various generations ot engineers who devoted themselves to the cause of a suffered and needy region, trying to soften the harshness of the semj-arid zone by the construction of works, of unquestionable importance in the creation of an efficient infrastructure for the Polygon of Droughts. The present General Direction is proud to present this evidence of the realizations of the DNOCS, during its more than seven decades of existence, presenting it to the specialized technical community of the learned forum of debates of the XIV International Congress of Large Dams. |
