ABSTRACT: Objective: To systematically survey the occurrence of ‘frog leather’ in the Recôncavo da Bahia, as well as in the border region with the Recôncavo, in the Jiquiriça Valley. Theoretical Framework: The occurrence of diseases is a limiting factor and threatens food security. Infections can cause losses of up to 100% in root production, which compromises quality. In relation to biotic factors, diseases caused by pathogens have caused great damage to this crop. Method: Research carried out by Embrapa, using an “online” questionnaire, to compare the incidence of ‘frog leather’. A qualitative-quantitative approach in the 11 municipalities located in Recôncavo da Bahia. The study was carried out in associations and unions of rural producers and the participants were technicians and rural cassava producers. Results and Discussion: The results of the research signaled the non-occurrence of 'frog leather' in the municipalities in the Recôncavo region of Bahia. However, data collection carried out in other regions of Bahia and Brazil revealed the disease. Specifically, in the Vale do Jiquiriça region, in the municipality of Laje-BA. Implications of the Research: From this perspective, as a product of the research, a booklet was created focusing on directing public policies and research actions, as well as improving the perception and identification of the disease by cassava farmers. Originality/Value: There is an interest in further studies aimed at providing scientific feasibility to reach knowledge in the regions of individual and community management, providing support for everyone and greater technical knowledge for cassava farmers.
