This study was conducted at the Embrapa Soja Experimental Station in Londrina, PR., Brazil, to investigate the resistance of the biotype E-298 of Euphorbia heterophylla to the herbicides ALS enzyme inhibitor, found in soybean fields located in Cafelandia County. PR. Plants from a susceptible population were compared with plants from a supposedly resistant population. The treatments were set up based on recommended rates for the herbicides, half, twice, four and eight times of them. The products applied were: methyl cloransulam at the following rates 0.0; 0.015; 0.03; 0.06; 0.012 and 0.24 kg a.i../ha, plus the agral adhesive surfactant at the rate of 0.2% v/v; imazethapyr at the doses of 0.0; 0.05; 0.1; 0.2; 0.4; and 0.8 kg a.i./ha, imazaquin at the rates of 0.0; 0.075; 0.15; 0.3; 0.6 and 1.2 kg a.i./ha plus the assist adhesive surfactant at the rate of 0.3% v/v, sulfentrazone at the rates of 0.0; 0.3; 0.6; 1.2; 2.4; and 4.8 kg a.i./ha plus assist adhesive surfactant at the rate of 0.3% v/v, and lactofen at the following rates 0.0; 0.082; 0.165; 0.33; 0.664 and 1.329 kg a.i./ha. The biotype E 298 has different levels of cross-resistance among the herbicides methyl cloransulam, imazethapyr and imazaquin. The rate response curves of the resistant biotype had values lower than the susceptible biotype under all studied rates for the herbicides methyl cloransulam imazethapyr and imazaquin. The rate response curves of the resistant biotype had values lower than the susceptible biotype under all studied rates for the herbicides methyl cloransulam, imazethapyr and imazaquin. The herbicides sulfentrazone and lactofen have different mechanism of action from the ALS enzyme inhibition, so they had a high level of control for both biotypes.
