The pollination ecology of tropical shrubland was studied in the Venezuelan Guyana Highlands. Of the 62 visiting organisms recorded on 55 plant species, 80.6% were pollinators. Four families of bees, 4 of wasps, 3 of Lepidoptera, 3 of Diptera and 2 species of Scarabaeidae were represented. At the community level, 56.2% of plant species were pollinated by Hymenoptera, 10.9% by Lepidoptera, 9.6% by Diptera, and 2.7% (one plant species) by Scarabaeidae. |
