An overview of the microfungi on native plants of the Brazilian cerrado is presented. A dataset of the fungi known from the cerrado is given. A complete set of references providing information of the cerrado fungi is compiled. The need for further studies on the fungi from the cerrado is illustrated with examples of our present knowledge. Examples of biodiversity of microfungi found on seven native cerrado hosts is provided. An evolutionary continuum of Phyllachora species on Myrtaceous host is illustrated. This will allow future comparisons with data from other tropical regions. |
