The role of root transmission of red-ring nematode (Rhadinaphelenchus cocophilus) was investigated in screen-house experiment. Transmission through root contact ocurred in seven of 15 plants growing around artificially inoculated plants. In another experiment, every plants was contaminated when a suspension of nematode was placed on the mechanically damaged roots. The young seedlings of nematode was placed on the mechanically damaged roots. The young seedlings did not develop the typical symptoms of red-ring nematode when planted to replace dead plants. It is suggested that seedling tissues are unsuitable for the multiplication of red-ring nematode. This study was conducted to determine if direct transmission of red-ring nematode occurs through root contact and through cultivation practices. Also, the transmission to young seedlings and its susceptibility was investigated. All the work was conducted in a screen house, free from the presence of possible vectors. |
