Long-term (1 yr), soft, embryogenic callus tissue cultures were established from excised immature embryos of a commercial cultivar of hybrid maize (Zea mays L.). Plant regeneration occurred by the formation of somatic embryos, and the regenerated plants were morphologically normal with 2n = 20 chromosomes. Such cultures may be useful for the isolation of mutants and the establishment of embryogenic cell suspension cultures. |
