Body weight of 60 Karadi and 12 Holstein Friesian animals between 12 to 15 months of age maintained at the Livestock Farm of the Department of Animal Breeding, College of Agriculture, University of Sulaimaniyah, Iraq were taken at monthly intervals. The monthly gains in weight of Karadi male, female and castred males were 19.75+-2.10, 14,11+-2,06 and 19.22+-1.71 kg. respectively. The sex difference in gain in weight was significant. Similar monthly gains in Holstein Friesian males and females were 24.46+-0.46 and 21.46+-0.36 kg. respectively. The efficiency of feed utilization was higher in males than in the females in both the breeds. The efficiency of fed utilization in Holstein Friesian was however higher than in the Karadi animals. |
