We have applied a microarray approach in order to get the first insight into gene expression profiles of M. truncatula roots in response to infection with the parasite O. crenata. M. truncatula accessions SA27774 (complete resistance) and SA4087 (incomplete resistance) were inoculated with O. crenata seeds. Roots were harvested at 15,21 and 35 days post inoculation. Array hybridizations revealed several hundred genes up-regulated in response to O. crenata infection. Comparative analysis revealed qualitative and quantitative differences in the gene expression profile between the genotypes in the sampled time-points. In both genotypes up-regulated genes involved in signal transduction, ethylene pathway, abiotic stress, and disease resistance were detected. However, highest numbers of up-regulated genes were found in SA4087. Data analyses also revealed that genes involved in both salicylic and jasmonic acids pathways were simultaneously induced in both genotypes. |
