Since 1970 the Agriculture Department at the University of Queensland has been active in promoting research on tropical root crops as an area of study for post graduate students from tropical countries. This short paper reviews the research and publications arising from this five year period of involvement. The main research effort has been devoted to giger which is an economically important crop in localised areas of Queensland, and cassava which is not as yet grown commercially ub Australia. In addition collections of Manihot, Dioscorea, colocasia and xanthosoma genotypes from tropical Queensland and elsewhere are being maintained and extended as the opportunity arises. |
