When vegetative plants of the Cabezona pineapple variety were placed in a horizontal position, not only did they curve upward, but flowers were produced as well. A minimum of 3 days of geotropic stimulation is required for flower induction in the Cabezona variety. No geotropic flower induction was found in vegetative plants of the Red Spanish and Smooth Cayenne varieties. Evidence is presented which indicates that the geotropic flower induction in the Cabezona pineapple is auxin controlled. |
