The banana thrips, Hercinothrips bicinctus (Bagmall), has been a severe pest in bananas along the Natal South Coast for many years, although in the Transvaal it is only since the mid 1970's that the pest has become a problem. Since 1976, spread of this pest has continued in the Transvaal and damaging populations, i.e. populations that cause downgrading or rejection of fruit, have been recorded from all production areas of the Transvaal. |
