From February 1986 through January 1991, 535 frozen concentrated orange juices, 256 orange juice from concentrates,95 pasteurized orange juices, 100 grapefruit juices and 286 grapefruit juice from concentrates were obtained from Florida producers for analysis of 11 key vitamins and minerals. Means, standard deviations of the means, and maximum and minimum values are presented for each product on the basis of mg nutrient per 100 ml of product for sodium, potassium, ascorbic acid, thiamine, calcium, iron, folic acid, phosphorus, magnesium, zinc and copper. Ther estimated percentage of the U.S. Recommended Daily Allowance (U.S. RDA) that may be claimed in nutrition labeling for each nutrient per 6-fl-oz (177.4 ml) standard serving is also given except for sodiumand potassium, which have no established U.S. RDAs. Significant variation among the means for many of the nutrients for each of the products was found by month, year and manufacturing plant. |
