The results of the experiments and computer simulation suggested that, in general, the level of interspecific competition within a polyculture was inversely related to risk. In polycultures with high interspecific competition a decline in yield of one crop resulted in an increase in yield of another crop. Total polyculture yield was at a maximum at some point between zero interspecific competition and a point at which interspecific competition was equal to intraspecific competition. |
