The relationship between moisture from dew and rain, and translation of infective cooperia spp. Haemonchus placei and Oesophagostomition radiatum larvae from bovine dung pats to pasture was investigated. It was observed that daily dew of 0.175mm for seven days induced translation of larvae but numbers were only one tenth of those which migrated in responde to daily rain of 7mm for seven days. As dow of 0.175mm more occurred on one thir of the days during June, July and August, it was concluded that dew probably enables some larvae translation to occur in the Iowns ville district but at levels of no epidemiological significance. The effects of soil and atmospheric moisture predators and herbage height on larval survival in dung pats and on pasture was also discussed. |
