Ovine reproduction in tropical Australia is essentially an ecological problem. Land tenure and capital investment needed to provide the facilities essential to sheep husbandry demand that the total area occupied by sheep remains fairly constant. Within this area the sheep population fluctuates with seasonal conditions, but in the north-west of Western Australia sheep numbers have declined where plant comunities have changed and the pasture is now incapable of maintaining breeding flocks. |
