The Author study the anatomy of Mimosa laticifera Rizz. et Mattos and M. caesalpiniijolia Benth. The occurrence of latex in the new bran ches and folioles of both species is confirmed. The first especies occurs in the "carrado" (Paraopeba, M. Gérais) and the second in the "caatinga" (State of Maranhâo and North of Minas Gérais), The study involved specimens of sunny and shadowy places and contains a taxonomic chara cterazition, explanation of technique and plant material studied, its ha bitats, uses, general properties, macro and microscopic characters and two comparatives tables. The two species proved, to be distinct. M. caesalpiniifolia has cortex 5mm, thick, mainly suberous, easily detached the secundary wood is hard and heavy, with geniculate vases, fiber almost always homogeneous and evident growth layers. The leaf is mesomorphic in nature, with a thin cuticle. The sclerenchyma less developed and palisade parenchyma are shorter than the ones of M. laticifera. M. laticifera has the cortex relatively thick, with typical rythidoma, the secondary wood relatively hard and heavy, thick alburnum geniculate veses, heterogeneous fibers, sometimes looking like parenchyma cells end no evident growth layers. The leaf has a thicy cuticle, sclerenchyma well developed, large palisade parenchyma and papilose inferior epider mis. The folioles, as stressed by Perri (3) are xeromorphic in nature in the species of th "cerrado". Wylie (6) confirms this point saying that the intervenose spaces are larger in the leaves less exposed.
