Abstract: A crayon and associated harness for the detection of mating in sheep is described. The crayon is held on the brisket of the ram by the harness. In tests of the equipment under field conditions the crayons continued to mark for at least 2 wks. and the marks were usually distinguishable for at least 4 wks. The results were as good as or better than those obtained by applying coloured raddle to the brisket of the ram daily. The crayon material was readily scourable from the marked wool. |
