The use of goats is a satisfactory method for utilizing and controlling catclsw mimosa and spiny kidneywood in nothern Mexico, and the goats can provide additional income to the rancher. A higher degree of control canbe achieved with a combination of shredding and goat grazing, resulting in increased grass forage production. Goat stocking rates could be higher than conventionally estimated, depending on the season of use and management. Various practical schemes of combined cattle and goats grazing are possible and could greatly increase range forage and animal production under these northern Mexico conditions. This research was carried out as part of the Range Research Program of the National Institute for Livestock Research (INIP), Ministry of Agriculture, Mexico. |
