There are distinct advantages to the use of goats as experimental animals. These advantages include size, docility, cost, availability and anatomic peculiarities. Despite these advantages the goat does have peculiarities which make it difficult for the uninitiated investigator to use and information concerning the goat as an experimental animal is widely dispersed in the literature. Procurement, care, uses of the goat in research, anesthesia, anatomic peculiarities and difficulties in the use of the goat are presented and discussed. A comprehensive bibliography is included. |
