An ultrasonic foetal pulse detector was used to determine the foetal heart rate (FHR) in II normal and J 5 confirmed aborter does. During the last third of pregnancy the mean FHR in normal animals declined progressively from approximately 200 to 130 beats per minute (b. p.m.). Similar results were obtained for does which had aborted previously but completed the present gestation successfully. The FHR of abortuses which had a "fresh" appearance and in some cases were still alive after expulsion, was found to be normal up to expulsion of the conceptus. In abortions characterised by the ill IItero death of a foetus showing oedema variable degrees of bradycardia was recorded for some time prior to foetal death. |
